Ayutthaya: A Glimpse into Thai History

Ayutthaya, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Thailand

Travel back in time for a fascinating look at Thailand's rich history in its former capital, Ayutthaya. Start your day at the stunning and peaceful Bang Pa-In Palace, where the king takes his summer and weekend getaways. After lunch at Ayutthaya's floating market, tour the ruins at the old capital. In the 1760's the Burmese army invaded THailand, sacking Ayutthaya and destroying nearly every Buddha statue at the site, seemingly freezing it in time. While the Thai army was eventually able to recapture Ayutthaya, the capital has remained in Bangkok to this day.
